‘True Blood’ Alum Dies & Other TV News

This weekend saw the tragic death of a beloved ‘True Blood’ star.

Nelsan Ellis, who played the fantastic Lafayette on the show for all seven seasons and saw him win a Ewwy, NewNownext, & Satellite award sadly passed away on Saturday (July 8th) from complications from heart failure. Nelsan didn’t just play Lafayette, he brought an LGBT character to one of HBOs biggest shows, and not just a token LGBT character, Lafayette was unapologetic, dynamic, hilarious, loving and didn’t take sh** from anyone, ensuring Lafayette’s sexuality didn’t define the character, Lafayette defined his sexuality! And all these traits, only Nelsan could bring to the character. But Nelsan was so much more than Lafayette though. A Juilliard alumni, he was also an accomplished playwright and director, as well as having a vast and varied TV and Movie resume. He’ll be sorely missed throughout the world, and our hearts and love go out to all his family, friends and fans.

Other TV news we heard this weekend..

‘Sleepy Hollow’ & ‘Star Trek’ star John Cho has joined the cast for season 2 of FOX horror,  ‘The Exorcist’. Selma Blair who recently played Kris Jenner in the anthology series, American Crime Story, has been cast in a recurring role in the TV Land revamp of cult movie, ‘Heathers’, the show which will also see the movies original star, Shannen Doherty guest star in the pilot, is a modern day retelling of the dark comedy set in a high school and will see Veronica (originally played by Doherty) dealing with a vicious, vacuous group of mean girls all named Heather.

Following on from a successful guest slot last month, this week will see Caitlyn Jenner guest host ABCs ‘The View’. She’ll guest hist on Thursday and Friday (13 & 14 July), and with her outspoken and contradictory views on equality and politics, it’ll be an interesting few episodes.

Eileen Davidson will be leaving the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Eileen, who’s been a great housewife since season 5, told her instagram followers “After a lot of careful thought, I’ve decided because of my crazy schedules at [The Young and The Restless], as well as [Days of Our Lives], it’s best for me and my family if I step away from being a Housewife for now.. But you never know, I might be popping in from time to time just to see what the ladies are up to! Thanks for your love and support guys!!!”
