Yellowjackets’ second season premiere, “Friends, Romans, Countrymen,” picks up where the first season left off, with the survivors of a deadly plane crash stranded in the wilderness. The episode explores the emotional aftermath of the crash and the challenges of survival.

In a series of flashbacks, we see Taisia (Sophie Thatcher), Shauna (Melia Kreiling), and Misty (Olive Elise Abercrombie) as teenagers dealing with personal issues. Taisia has a difficult relationship with her mother, Shauna copes with her parents’ divorce, and Misty struggles with self-harm. These flashbacks provide insight into the characters’ personalities and past experiences that inform their behavior in the present.

In the present day, Lottie (Sophie Nélisse) has been living alone in the wilderness, still traumatized by her experience. Natalie (Juliette Lewis) returns to the woods after realizing that she can’t escape the trauma of the past. She tries to convince Lottie to leave with her, but Lottie is reluctant to leave the place that has become her home.

The survivors are soon approached by a group of men, one of whom they recognize as the man who had kidnapped them years before. The men offer to help the survivors, but it soon becomes apparent that they have ulterior motives. The men have been living in the wilderness, cut off from society, and are willing to do whatever it takes to survive.

As the tension builds, the girls discover a buried container that they believe contains the missing parts of their plane. However, when they open the container, they find something far more sinister. The episode ends with the girls fighting for their lives, realizing that their ordeal is far from over.

One of the standout performances in the episode is from Juliette Lewis, who portrays Natalie’s struggles with her past trauma and her decision to return to the wilderness to confront it. The episode also showcases the impressive acting skills of Sophie Nélisse, who plays Lottie, a character whose experiences have left her with deep emotional wounds.

Overall, “Friends, Romans, Countrymen” is a gripping start to Yellowjackets’ second season. The episode expertly blends flashbacks and present-day scenes to provide insight into the characters’ past and present struggles, while the tension builds throughout the episode, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats. The excellent performances from the cast help bring the complex and nuanced characters to life, and the cliffhanger ending sets the stage for what promises to be an intense and unpredictable season.
